Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate the cultural practices, input use and the cost and return of corn production in both first and second seasons in Amphoe Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima province.  One hundred and twenty four farmers were randomly selected as sample farms covering six Tambons.  The result of the study showed that the average cultivated areas of corn in the first and second seasons were 21.51 and 58.26 rai per farm respectively.  Most of the farmers plowed their land twice or thrice and all of them used seeding machine in both seasons.  Hybrid corn seeds were widely used with 71.43 percent in the first season and 98.28 percent in the second season.  Seeding rate was rather high at 3.2-3.4 kg per rai.  The cost of production per rai was 1,477.85 Baht and 1,498.93 Baht for the first and the second crops respectively. Yield per rai of the two seasons were not much different at the average of 474 kg per rai for the first season and 465.59 kg per rai for the second season.  With the selling prices of 3.86 Baht and 3.74 Baht per kg, the two growing seasons earned the benefit of 351.79 Baht and 242.38 Baht per rai respectively.
