Two main objectives breeding program of Supan-Buri Field Crops Research Center, Field Crops Research Institute, Department of Agriculture still have been done in 1998. First objective is research and development for sorghum grain purpose. The second objective is research and development for stem purpose. The progress in 1998 can be summarized as followed. 1) For grain purpose: F5 generation head to row selection had been done in the lines of crosses between white grain and short stem. Red grain sorghum standard yield trial shows that the line UT423 B has the highest grain yield across 3 locations. The standard varieties Supanburi 1 and U-thong 1 have potential yield more than Supanburi 60 under drought area. 2) For stem purpose: there are 3 dual-purpose sorghum lines, A2267-2, ICSV 93046, and UT 1258-5, showed the highest fresh stem yield and significantly difference from the check variety Supanburi 1. In multicut sorghum trial, there are 4 lines, UT1-IS 23585 W, IS 21454, UT 786 M, and UT 535 B gave fresh stem yield more than 125 ton per hectare.
