Hybrid Sorghum Standard Yield Trial

Two hybrids grain sorghum (Asgrow Ambar and Asgrow Diamente) were compared to Pacific 80 (a popular hybrid from Pacific seed company) , Suphanburi 1 (SP 1) and Suphanburi 60 (SP 60) [two released pure lines varieties from Department of Agriculture (DOA)] and some other hybrids sorghum from Suphanburi Field Crops Research Centre (SPFCRC). The result showed that most hybrids from private seed companies yield higher than hybrids from SPFCRC, but some are not statistically different from SP 1 and SP 60 except Asgrow Ambar And Asgrow Diamente yielded higher than SP 1 and SP 60. SPFCRC’s hybrids yield lower than other hybrids, these were due to about 50% less plant stand and head at harvesting time. It is conclude that 1) higher plant height will give higher yield potential 2) higher yield varieties at SPFCRC also give higher yield at PBFCES
