Committee Reports

Choir has begun again!  Now is a great time to join the choir and have some fun.  We will be participating in the Living Christmas Tree for the 2nd year with Oakwood Christian Church in Enid.  We start working on it early, so come and help us out!

Nursing Home Ministry
We had a wonderful time at our "Back to School" party at the Nursing Home.  We had the party in the Dining Hall, and they had the residents all dressed up.  They were so glad to see us, especially the children who make their eyes light up.  The kids sang some songs for them, and they joined in on some of their favorite hymns.  We served them punch and cookies and gave each one a sucker.  We also gave each resident a "Noah's Ark" picture frame with their picture in it.  That was a big hit!  It was so much fun, and I want to thank all those who went with me:  Tana Davis, Mary Coats, Margie Kirby, Trevor Davis, Keegan Davis, Jessica Coats, Parker Coats, Cody Coats, and Brad Schuermann.  A special "thank you" to Wanda Cole for keeping me with refreshments.

God Bless,
Nellyne

The Financial Perspective
Earlier this year the Stewardship Ministry developed a projection of expenditures for the year.  At that time, considering the expanded level of programs and the added expenses of a full time minister, the projection was $6200 per month.  As shown in the Income and Expense Summary for 2000, our expenses have averaged $6900 per month for the first seven months of the year.
Pastor Sherry completed her first year as our pastor on July 1 and shared a very impressive list of accomplishments with the Board at the July meeting.  Great things are happening at First Christian Church, and these programs require our financial support.
The support for the piano fund was tremendous, but we must not overlook the monetary requirements of our normal day-to-day operations.  The Income and Expense Summary for 2000, included in this newsletter, does not reflect the purchase of the new piano, since that check was written in August, but the generous contributions for the piano are included in the Income summary.  Consequently, when the August totals are in, we

could easily see a significant short position.
The long-awaited and much needed renovation of the sanctuary is underway.  This is another opportunity for us to exercise our Stewardship commitment.  Please prayerfully consider what you can do to support these projects and activities.

Stewardship Ministry

                   Jim Kent, Chairman
Membership Committee
The membership committee delivered bread to the homebound in August.  We also participated in the back-to-school party for the Medford Nursing Home on August 8th.  Six of our youth and five adults were present for an afternoon of singing, laughing, bubble blowing, and good fellowship.  Refreshments of cookies and punch were furnished by Nellyne and Wanda.  Cody Coats passed out big suckers to all of the residents.  One of the residents commented, "I haven't had a sucker this big in years."  Nellyne gave each one a Noah's Ark picture frame with their picture in it.  They were very proud of them.  It takes so little to get them excited.  We also had a surprise birthday party given in honor of Nellyne Junghanns on August 15th by the Medford Nursing Home.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY NELLYNE!
We also took part in the back-to-school bash for the youth.  It was a very inspirational evening, enjoyed by the youth as well as the adults present.  Thank You Tana Davis for all the time and work you put into this event for our youth.

The next Family Night will be September 13 at 6:00 P.M.  Come out and join us for a good time.

Until Next Time, Enjoy -
Wanda Cole

Quilting on Monday nights!

Come and join us for fun and fellowship on Monday nights at 7:00 P.M.  We will be starting with "log cabin" quilts as well as working on projects of your own. For more information, contact Donna Schultz.

Youth Sunday

On August 6th the youth participated in a fabulous Youth Sunday Service.  Bly Schultz was our lay leader, opening with scripture and announcements.  Jessica Coats led the music and sang the special.  Whitney Schultz played the piano.  Keegan Davis gave the Children's (Adult) Time message.  Brady Schultz and Treavor Davis were elders.  Lindsay Stewart, Whitney Schultz, Nathan Nance, and Bly Schultz were deacons.  DeAsha, Keegan, and Treavor used a dramatic presentation of John 3:16 to begin the sermon.  Then DeAsha explained the presentation and preached her first sermon.  We are so very blessed to have such talented youth.  Thank you for all your hard work and talents.

A Back-to-School bash was held on Tuesday evening, August 15th at the church.  Justin Mann and his crew started us off with some good music.  The kids enjoyed singing songs and rockin' to the beat, and from the looks of things, I think the adults did too.  Mike Keahbone spoke to the youth.  Then the parents and others from the community went to the school, made a human chain around the classroom building and prayed.  Over 100 people attended.   PRAISE GOD!

YOUTH SCOOP

The United Youth Group Kick-Off began on August 20 at Randy & Chey Peck's home.  We had a great time swimming and cooking out.  For the month of September, the youth will meet at the Christian Church.  We hope all youth, grades 7-12, will come and join us for fun and fellowship this year.  Mark Scates, Renee Crow, & Bryan and Carol Schultz will be the youth directors this year.  Anyone willing to help is more than welcome.

Women's Retreat

On Saturday, September 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., we will be hosting a women's conference with a luncheon catered by Nancy Wilson of Medford following the service.  Women of all ages are invited to attend.  There is no charge, but a love offering will be taken.  The conference includes an inspirational speaker, Tonya Weston, who with her husband, pastors the Living Word Fellowship World Outreach Center in Enid.  She ministers practical, life changing messages from the uncompromising Word of God.  Look for a new determination and purpose when you leave this conference.  Tonya's motivation and inspiration comes from her deep commitment to be obedient to the call of God.  You will be refreshed and encouraged as you experience the presence of God and the tangible anointing of the Holy Spirit through her ministry!  Please come and enjoy Tonya and her teachings.

The editor noted that the name of Mike Cogswell was omitted from the list of donors for the piano fund.  We apologize for this oversight and thank Mike and his family for this gift.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Hugh (Peewee) Kimball.  They were married in our sanctuary Saturday, August 12.  It was a lovely service.  Their children:  Bobbye Sue, Shelley, LaDonna, and Daniel were the attendants for the couple.  It was an honor and a privilege to marry this sweet family.

Sunday School teachers are needed.  A new sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.  Please sign up for one month.

"Thank You" Kelsea Schultz, Clinton Schultz, and Whitney Schultz for mowing the church lawn this summer and keeping it looking great!

"Thank You" to all those who helped dust and clean the sanctuary during the renovation.

I would like to thank each and everyone in the Church that has prayed for me.  I appreciate the support and encouragement in the things I have done the past 8 months.  I know I have gone beyond my comfort zone, but it wouldn't have been possible without your prayers.  I hope and pray that the Education Dept. has been able to serve each one of your needs in some way.  If anyone has any suggestions to finish out my year, please let the committee or myself know.  Again, thanks for your prayers.                                                              Tana
