Overtaking the nation like a tsunami on the Californian coast
Crushing dissent beneath the thunderous roar of the sea of people
The demagogue’s façade of moral values and compassionate conservatism
Underneath lie the cancers of corruption, spreading like tentacles to all sections of
Government and Industry, now merely glorified power mongers
Creeping monster of apathy spreads through America
Accroaching the airwaves, homogenizing, standardizing
Five corporations and their TV stations providing all television news in the land
Getting you up to date on Scott Peterson, Jennifer Lopez’s romantic life,
The San Francisco Giants, and the weather, bringing you the news that matters
And pay attention to the five minute sound bite of “international” news
Cause it’s all you’re going to get to base your views on
Educational programming has gone out the window
Apparently viewers favor scripted reality television shows
Which invoke less cerebral activity than sleeping
Another exercise in mind-numbing
Population-dumbing
When more youths vote for American Idol than in presidential elections
We are slightly lower than rock bottom
When the last bastions of free speech are being attacked by the FCC
And Clear Channel is in bed with Bush
Who would have thought that Howard Stern personified the First Amendment
Why the evangelicals are heaven-bent on censoring Family Guy is beyond me
As Congress and the Federal Communications Commission ratchet up their criticism and
the financial penalties for indecency on the airwaves, television and radio broadcasters
are already making significant changes to their practices and standards.
So get in the last episodes of South Park while you still can
Before you are consumed by
Numbness Dumbness Blindness Indifference
Slow cessation of stimulation of the mind
Posthaste we won’t even need skills like logical deduction and rational thought
The government will make all our decisions for us
Pushover, how malleable will we be then to brainwashing?
