Untitled

I watched you as you dressed yourself in colors so much brighter
Than the life you lived in secret,
Than the lie you told to others
And I watched you as you pulled the covers up close to the pillows
That punished you in daylight and sang with you your sorrow
And I listened as you read a page you wrote when you were nine
You told me, "this is what I wish I could feel all the time"
You said, "It used to be much better
When there was nothing they could see"
Then you looked at me and said, "It's only bad if you let it be"
And I watched you dress back down, put your sadder colors on,
And push the covers off on to the floor where they belong
And now I'm watching you watch me pull at the lines that I have drawn
As you tell me, "life is worthless if you cannot see the sun"
I hope you're wrong
I hope you're wrong
I hope you're wrong
