Michele's MonSter-September Updates

September 1-9th-Wow, what a beginning of a month. Labor Day night found me in
dire straights. I lost the use of my legs while doing laundry.
Hub found in sprawled out in the bathroom.
Vision in the left eye has decreased dramatically. Called
the Dr's office the next morning and found myself being
promptly admitted to the hospital. After receiving
extensive Steroid I.V. therapy for days, Physical Therapy,
etc. the decided I should stay for another 3-4 weeks
at the hospital. This did not sit well as a have a child
at home. The ulternative plan is now for home nursing
care, to help my family cope and take care of me
now along with various out patient therapy to try to
regain much that I have lost with the new episode.

At first, I took this as a personal defete as my MS hasnt
required hospitalization. But I guess by the end of my stay there
I ended up seeing my MS for what it really is. How to
get out of denial in a heartbeat I guess. This will
help relieve some of the burden for my family as well, as now
with nurses coming in, it will take alot of stress off of my family.

Guess we are back to one day at a time. Thank you to
everyone who kept myself and my family in their prayers.
Please say a special prayer for my dog Millie, her pic
in the updates pages, as while I was gone,
someone poisoned her and she died upon my return from the hospital.
She was my constant companion during my MS and
I will miss her so very much. ~Peace and keep the faith...~

September 20,2000- Went to Dr's today for post hospitalization check up.
MRI of the spine shows lesions forming in the lower back.He says this is normal in
as much as MS is a progressive disease. Iam being referred to outpatient
physical therapy for 6 weeks. I now use a rolling walker wherever I go.
Catheter is working out ok I guess. Bladder spasms are a problem though.
Atleast Iam outta diapers. =) I will be seeing a Vision
specialist in the hopes of helping with my vision. It's deteroating quickly in both eyes.
I know MS causes blindness and Iam hoping I can advert that part of it.
Being hearing impaired, I need my eyes to read lips. Being weened off the steroids, only
have a few more doses of those puppies. Wow, how to wreck havoc on a stomach lining.
Taking presciption pepcid stuff to help with the acid relflux. Steroids has
caused profuse swetting at times to the point of almost dehydrating. Drinking a ton of fluids
to help ease the side effects. Three more days, and I'll be finished with
those dosages. Concentrating on gaining leg strength now. This escalerbration
has really taken its toll. Seems to be taking longer then normal
to regain various things I lost a few weeks ago.Still having major lower back\spine
and hip pain. Upper back and neck muscles still very sore also.
Home health care ends this week. Will start outpatient therapies etc.
Dr. has informed me a new drug will be hitting the market
over the next few months. Something about an injection that is given once
every three months. It must be very new as not much info available at this time on it.
As I hear about this new one, I'll post information so that you and your
dr can decide if its worth a go for you. Kind of nice to know
someone out there is still trying to come up with a cure or
something for this mess. Maybe one day they will.
=0) Until then, Iam not giving up and neither should you. ~peace~
