In Japan, the manga/comic series "Hana Yori Dango" (Taiwan's adaptation is known as "Meteor Garden") has been popular for nearly ten years. The story is still continuing on and has yet to be concluded. It has attracted enormous amount of Japanese manga fans. Many who owned websites thought Jerry Yan resembles Doumyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si). Due to this, many have created Japanese language-based sites for him. Some Japanese fans even flew to see F4 during their Hong Kong tour, mostly to say "arigato" (thank you) to Vanness, perhaps for his great portrayal of Mimasaka Akira (Mei Zuo). Yoko Kamio, the creator of "Hana Yori Dango" was very pleased with Jerry, Vanness, Vic and Ken acting as F4 in the series as well. (Non-No-May 25, 2002) Special thanks to Miky for providing me with this news.
The delivery boy heard some news about F4 from his friends in the United States. Signing the contract was not the only reason why F4 came to LA. Actually, they were here to help out with the ribbon-cutting for Vanness' mom, Mimi's Health and Beauty place as well. Seeing so many fans show up at the ribbon-cutting event, Vanness was very touched. Vanness took F3 around while they were in LA. They even went to eat "Lawry's" steak and visited Disneyland as VIP guests. The four didn't even feel tired but have a lot of fun. (Monday #86-May 24, 2002)
"Meteor Garden" made F4 famous throughout the whole Asian world. On May 21, F4 showed up in Los Angeles for the ribbon-cutting of Vanness' mom, Mimi's Health and Beauty place. A crowd of fans waited the entire afternoon just to see their idols, F4. Once they arrived, the fans went crazy and the situation went out of control. It was a sight rarely seen amongst Asians in LA. Only visiting for a few days, F4 have been quite busy. First, they went to sign the contract for Disney's new animated feature "Lilo and Stitch." They will be singing the Chinese version of the title song. Other than Vanness, who grew up in Los Angeles, it was F3's first time in LA; so 'of course' they went to Disneyland.
Vanness' mom still remembers going back to Taiwan last year, where her son was discovered and asked to film "Meteor Garden." It was a new start for both Vanness' establishment in the entertainment business as well as the grand opening for her own Health and Beauty place. Vanness got teary eyes when thanking his mother for all her support, revealing the great bond this two mother and son have. The place is located in Rowland Heights, Colima Street. The building was surrounded by a long line of fans on the day of the ribbon-cutting event. With F4 posters, photo books, etc...and cameras in hand, the crowd went out of control. F4 immediately went into the building to insure their safety. They returned for the ribbon-cutting when the crowd have calmed down a little. They threw the flower thingy to the fans after cutting the ribbon. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event for fans of all ages. (Zhong Guo Daily News-May 22, 2002)
F4 have been asked to sing Elvis' song "Can't Help Fall In Love" for Disney's new animated feature "Lilo and Stitch." At the end of this month, the 4 will be going to Los Angeles to sign the contract. "Can't Help Fall In Love" was released in 1961. Although, the 4 were not even been born at the time, they are all very familiar with the legendary Elvis Presley. The 4 will also get to see a special premiere of the movie during their visit to LA. Brought up in LA, Vanness will be F3's tour guide while they are here. (Sing Tao Daily-May 16, 2002)
More than 12,000 fans showed up for Jerry's autograph session in Hong Kong. It was originally suppose to be only 12 hours, but it was extended another 6 hours. Jerry was extremely tired, but he wanted to finish all the signatures stamping and handshakes until the very last fan. No wonder his fans love him so much. His hand was filled with both old and new injuries (scratches from fans), but he said his fans sacraficed even more...camping out for days just to see him. It was very last, so they decided to stay the night in Hong Kong. Fans were told about this, but they still waited overnight at the airport for him in order to see him off. Jerry got to the airport and was surrounded by over 300 fans. Although he had 25 bodyguards, he was still pushed to his knees. His crew had to take him to a secret terminal to avoid any additional blockage, and they proceeded without any problems. Unfortunately, Jerry was so tired that he fell to his knees once again. The fans' gifts to him dropped and scattered all over the floor. He picked up each and every one of the gifts. He had over 20 boxes of gifts from fans, mostly stuffed animals. Like Vic, Jerry plans to donate all of them to the children center. Afterwards, it was back to Taiwan to continue filming "Meteor Garden II." The Music Company had to spend an extra $7-80,000 due to the fact that he had to stay an additional night in Hong Kong; but they said that it was totally worth it. Jerry spent Mother's Day with his mother. He took her out to eat and talk; and he gave her a massage chair. (Qiao Bao-May 14, 2002)
Vic's parents were divorced when he was in middle school. He lived with his father and elder brother since then. Although, he didn't see his mother much, they are very close. Even though the crew haven't gone to Paris to film "Meteor Garden II," Zai Zai has already decided to pick out a Mother's Day gift for his mom. "Although, this will be my first time in Paris, the landscape there is very romantic. I know I should tour around for some sightseeing; but I heard that the brand name merchandises are cheaper there, so I should go buy some for my mom first." Zai Zai laughed once he heard the reporter saying that he was very 'Xiao Shun' to his mother. "My mother always say that every time I buy her a souvenir from somewhere, it's always bought from the airport." We can't really blame him. Even during his two-day advertisement in Hong Kong, he had to fulfill many appointments. He didn't even have time for a break. (Ming Pao Weekly #1747-May 4, 2002)
Zai Zai attended the "_ _ 30." Smiling ever so sweetly, Vic personally baked bread for the ones who attended. Full of electric feeling, making bread from the heart, it should taste sweet to the heart. Attracting an enormous crowd during his 3-day visit to Hong Kong, it's amazing that he was able to move about without trouble with the help of his hard-working bodyguards. (Ming Pao Weekly #1746-April 27, 2002)
During March, F4 was in Hong Kong and a bunch of fans hovered over them. They went back to Hong Kong for the second time, but this time it was very secretive. They 4 didn't have any make-up on and stayed as quiet as possible. The reason for this was they were there only to film a shoe commercial for 'Mingle.' They left immediately after they were done with the filming. (Sing Tao Daily-April 14, 2002)
"Meteor Garden" made Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Vanness We, and Ken Chu famous...forming into F4. All 4 members have something in common...that was they all grew up in single-parent families. Jerry's father died when he was in grade school. Since then, he had to work to support himself through school. His mother's health wasn't very good, so he and his younger sister have to work to earn $500 (Taiwan). He even modeled for under garments as well...sometimes working 2 jobs a day. As for Vic, Ken, and Vanness, their fathers all left them and life wasn't all that spectacular either. Ken was left with a guardian in Singapore when he was only 7 years old and lived there for 10 years. He was so poor that he even experienced not having a bite to eat for 3 days and 3 nights. (Duo Chou Han-March 16, 2002)

If F4 had a choice on the cast for the Hong Kong version of "Meteor Garden," who do you think they will choose? Well...they each had a chance to pick an actor to play their very own role. Jerry picked Alex Fong for the role of "Dao Ming Si," and Vic picked Roy Chou for "Hua Ze Lei." Ken thought that Choi, Man Lok would be a great "Ximen," while Vanness chose Victor Chan for "Mei Zuo." After a long discussion, the 4 decided that Charlene (Twins) would make a wonderful Shan Cai, since she had a very cute round face, resembling Barbie's. (East Touch #354-March 13, 2002)
