October 20, 2002. (Pine Barren Golf Course, New Jersey). I guess its just about Halloween time because the theme of today is pretty much 'coming back from the dead'. The day started off alittle uneasy for the chinese with Rich barely making tee time. The koreans started out hot and never looked back once on the front nine. Jamin scored on the first three holes and showed off his 'awesome' length, turning lengthy par fours into two iron - pitching wedges. Tae contributed early as well, scoring two pars at crucial times to sink the chinese into a larger and larger hole. Together, on the front nine, the Koreans teamed up win six holes and take a huge 4 hole lead into the turn. The Chinese were struggling all around the greens, pulling three and four putts seemingly out of a hat. Moral was low as a good spanking was in order. The back nine started off just like a replay of the front, with Jamin parring the long number 10 and Tae solidly backing him up on the next two holes. The Chinese continued to three putt and found themselves 5 holes down with six left to play. A win by Bryan on the next hole put the lead down to 4 holes and what seemed to be a lucky long putt for par by Rich on the next hole seemed to ignite a fire which Rydercup has never seen before. Rich managed to par three holes in a row to strike fear and doubt in the eyes of the opposition. With the Chinese taking 4 straight holes and only down by one now coming into the 17th, both hope (divine intervention) and disbelief was in the air. Jitters and tension were growing, was something kind of special brewing?? Bryan came thru big on the 17th, nearly birdying out from 100 yards and then again on 18 with a 40 yard chip. After all the dust finally settled, the Chinese had managed to WIN the last 6 holes of the day culminating in a one hole victory. Unbelievable. What a comeback!!?? You can call it coming back from the dead. |
