This is a quick journal of my adventures traveling to London, Dublin, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco to see the Throwing Muses perform live! The Throwing Muses are Kristin Hersh (guitars/vocals), Bernard Georges (bass) and Dave Narcizo (drums). Special guest on part of the tour was none other than Tanya Donelly (vocals/bass), prodigal Muse.
I would like to thank Andy, Richard, Ryan, Allen, Jo and Shaun for London... Jo, Shaun, Kenny, Kate, Louisa, Alistair, Owen, Roger, K.C., Crystal and Alan for Dublin hijinks... Jo, Shaun, Alistair, K.C., Shannon, Laura, Cathy, Lisa, Donald, Margo, Elizabeth, Kevin, Brian and Jen for Boston... Ata, Damion, Ryan, Jo, Shaun, Rachel, Laura, Khoa, Jen and Lu for New York City... BillyO, Kristin, Ryder, Wyatt, Bodhi, Lisa, Dave, Misi, Ike, Bernard, Tanya, Dean, GracieB and Peter for touring! THANK YOU!
Tuesday March 18th - San Francisco
Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge on the Marin Airporter bus to the San Francisco International Airport...
Wednesday March 19th - London
Eleven hours and four movies later and I'm over London...
I take the Underground to King's Cross, where the hostel is...
Thursday March 20th - London
I show up at the first fan meet-up spot, Wagamama Bloomsbury, to find no one at all! Doh!
Ah... it's okay because I was really in London to see the Muses at the Astoria!
Pretty lights...
A little closer shot...
Hmm... maybe pull back a bit...
... to show the sold out crowd!
Bathed in blue...
Rockin' the crowd...
Oh yeah!
Friday March 21st - Dublin
Time to depart for Dublin via a flight on British Midlands...
Inexpensive accommodations at a Dublin hostel... (You really do get what you pay for - sparse rooms with squeeky beds!)
A few minutes later and I'm looking at the O'Connell Street Bridge
And a few hours later, it's night time...
Saturday March 22nd - Dublin
Another fan meet up point... Messrs Maguire, a Dublin pub at one end of Temple Bar.
I'm not disappointed... Muses fans everywhere! Louisa, Kenny and Franck...
... Franck, Jo, Shaun, Roger, Owen, K.C....
(If you're in the picture, please email me and I'll add your name! Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet everyone.)
... K.C., Crystal, Alan, Christine...
We all have some dinner and drinks before we head over to the venue.
At the Ambassador...
... we see the Muses...
... rock Dublin!
Sunday March 23rd - Dublin
The Muses have gone to Glasgow to rock the Scots. Some of us remain to catch sights around Dublin. "GAP ad pose" in front of the Guinness Brewery!
A nifty farmer's market in Dublin along the way to Trinity College.
A street in Temple Bar, Dublin's nightlife central. Nothing much going on a Sunday morning... but you can guess how crazy it was the night before!
Monday March 24th - London
Back in London... see? The British Library near King's Cross.
Tuesday March 25th - San Francisco
Now back in sunny San Francisco... a cargo ship makes its way into port.
The picturesque Golden Gate Bridge...
Baker Beach sunbathers...
End of the European tour, but then a month later...
Sunday April 20th - Newark

Off again... and now in Newark, NJ to stay at Ata's! (Ata hosted me for the whole time I was in New York City!)
Monday April 21st - New York City
First day to catch the sights in New York City. I take a bus from New Jersey to New York. The Statue of Liberty via the ferry...
Almost there...
Wow, big, but not as big as the Eiffel Tower...
Tuesday April 22nd - New York City
Times Square...
... busy as ever. A visual overload!
Flat Iron Building
Empire State Building
Wednesday April 23rd - New York City to Boston
Off to Boston via Penn Station and an Amtrak train...
Four hours later and it's time to switch to the T, Boston's subway system...
Thursday April 24th - Boston
The view from the Prudential Building, 2nd tallest building in Boston...
The street going left to right is "Mass Ave", as the natives call it. The hostel, where I was staying, is near the street intersection...
Along the Freedom Trail, marked by red bricks, which goes through the important locations of the U.S. Revolutionary War... a mix of old and new...
At the end of the Boston part of the Freedom Trail is the U.S.S. Constitution, the oldest U.S. Naval vessel in active duty...
The show at the Middle East...
... erg, I'm too far back!
Saturday April 26th - Boston to New York City
It's a rainy day coming back to New York City via the train...
The scenery is mostly like this... trees...
I'm almost there...
The show at Irving Plaza that evening...
Pretty spiffy work with the lights...
Another packed house...
Monday April 28th - New York City
Crossing the Washington Bridge to get to New York City...

The Lower East Side.
The Upper West Side.
Tuesday April 29th - Newark
Time to head back to San Francisco...
End of the East Coast tour, but a couple of days later...
Friday May 2nd - San Francisco to Los Angeles
So the drive began on a rainy day... I was hoping to leave the rain in SF, but it followed me to LA... (sigh) The days that followed, though, were sunny as ever!
Tuesday May 6th - Hollywood
The show is at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. (The original is in NYC.) I'm stuck in the corner, but that's okay because...
... I can take cool pictures of Tanya...
... singing...
... and playing.
Kristin and Tanya rockin' the house!
I think I captured the moment with this photo!
Wednesday May 7th - Hollywood
Bernard, Dave and Kristin play a free show at Amoeba Music LA.
Later that evening, concert two at the Knitting Factory!
Trying to capture Dave in his element is difficult. Darn that cymbal!
No Tanya this evening as little Gracie took a hard spill just before the Amoeba Music in-store show. :( (Gracie is doing fine.)
Thursday May 8th - Los Angeles to San Francisco
With the LA shows complete and a full day to get to San Francisco, I take a leisurely drive on Interstate 5.
Big sky... beautiful!
At a vista point in the Central Valley...
The windmills! San Francisco is just on the other side!
Friday May 9th - San Francisco
First show at Slim's!
I'm up front to capture some lovely pictures...
... of Kristin singing...
... and playing guitar.
I pull back to get a shot of Dave... but that cymbal!
Well, back to Kristin...
... tuning before "Pearl"...
Saturday May 10th - San Francisco
Sound check! Bernard adjusts his amp...
Kristin tests the volume...
Let's test with a song...
Done!
The show begins!
And finally, Bernard in the moment...
