Hey Karlos (good name btw, hehe), cheers for an interest, lets start...
TALK US ABOUT THE PREMATURE STAGES OF YOUR BAND AND IT´S MEMBERS
Well, basically all the guys in ONANIZER started with this band.A few months ago we changed line up a bit and for Kavron (22 years - bass)
and Ondra (18-vocals) is this first real band. There are 3 more guys
remaining, Me (Karel, 29 - guitar) and Mesy (33 - vocals) are here since
beginning in 96'. Drummer Koller (29) is the third founding member,
but at that times he used to sing, then he took a few years break to
come back half year ago as kick ass drumbeast. If I dont count some
shitty attempts in the past, also for us is this the first and only band.
Oke, I might forget, Koller also sings in long term band EMPTY FEELING,
kind of BRUJERIA style, with spanish lyrics. WE KNOW ABOUT THE ACKNOWLEDGED AND GENERALLY TALENTED CZECH METAL,
SPECIALLY THE WORK THAT HAVE MADE BANDS SUCH AS PANDEMIA, ROOT,
FLESHLESS, MANIAC BUTCHER, KRABATHOR AND OTHERS,
HOW CAN YOU DEFINE THE SOUND, THE INFLUENCES AND THE STYLE OF YOUR BAND?
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE AFOREMENTIONED BANDS? Yeah, these bands are one of the most known names in metal scene here..
Respect to all those bands, especially Pandemia and Krabathor for such long
tours they have done around the world, though we play grindcore, which is
slightly different and specific way of musick/life from death or black metal
bands and with this style we cant await sold out clubs or play at big
festivals for thousands people. WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION TO CREATING YOUR MUSIC??? Well, I dont smoke weed as some other guitarists, but I'm still able to make some riffs,
the faster the better. Its just coming out of me by itself. I always wanted play in a band,
play fast musick, release records, make tours all over the world, so, so far I'm happy and
wanna carry on as long as it will be possible. HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE BAND? As I said, I'm in the band from the first beggining. There were drummer and 2 vocalists
the other day, looking for a guitarist to fill the gap. It was at gig of Krabathor in
Autumn 96, were Koller ask me to play. When I asked what style, he told me, that something
really extreme, 10 x faster than this band do (Krabathor), hehe. He was right.
A few days later was grinding ONANIZER born. IN YOUR PERSONAL VIEWPOINT, WHAT DOES MEAN ONANIZER?, EXPLAIN US PLEASE To be honest, it has nothing to do with offensive meanings.. Its actually backwords
in latin language and it means a shelter for small birds. Believe or not ;) WHICH BANDS DO YOU REGARD AS ONANIZER MAIN INFLUENCES??? Its quite weird, but actually nobody ever told us that we sound like some other band.
There is always in catalogs written "grind in the vein of Nasum or Napalm Death, but to us,
I have never read any comparison. Yes, in the beginings I listened a lot to anal cunt,
Agathocles, Brutal Truth, Kataklysm, so there might be some traces of it, but still
ONANIZER has their own way of grind, always trying to be a bit different than the others
and thats how it will hopefully be even in the future. ABOUT YOUR FIRST EFFORT “Ansikte Mot Ansikte” WHAT CAN YOU TELL US
ON THE PRODUCTION PROCESS, THE RECORDING AND THE RESULTS THUS FAR. Uh, that was record where we paid our price as unexperienced band, what concerns releasing.
We recorded in spring 98 in quite already well known studio Hostivar in Prague, did good
stuff with great sound, then got offer from one label from Ukraine to release it as CD and
from one czech one, but only as MC. We went for CD. Wrong. The release took ages and after
some time it was finally released, but only as MC anyway and with bad distribution and
mainly just in Ukraine. Nobody knew about it, we didnt get any copies, label stopped being
in touch, "Ansikte Mot Ansikte" got forgotten... In the end there were only a few lucky ones
who got a copy here in Czech. Shit! WHAT IS THE MAIN SUBJECT YOU DEAL WITH IN YOUR SONGS LYRICS I'm not the lyricist, so cant tell you exactly, but mostly it concerns common things in
life which you see and disturbs you somehow. Poiting out some problems of today's world
and so on. No gore or porno themes. At least not so far :) WHAT IS THE CURRENT SITUATION OF CZECH´S METAL SCENE?,
TALK US ABOUT THE BANDS, SHOWS, ETC. I think czech metal/grind scene is one of the best, especially that grind core one.
Loads of great bands playing, still enough people supporting on shows. We recently
came back from European tour to realize that Czech just rules and why we actually
go abroad if at home is paradise, he. For sure, theres economic site of it and if
you do for an example exchange gig with german or french band, you just cant offer
the same conditions, which sucks. In those countries loads of shows are sponzored
by towns, so at gigs in Germany or Switzerland you have free drinks, food, whatever
you can bare, good money even if theres no audience, no risk for the organizator...
here goes all from your pocket, if theres not enough people on the show you are lost.
On the other side, this is what keeps the spirit here, everyone knows the value.
Theres plenty great bands - GRIDE, LYCANTHROPHY, INGROWING, NEEDFUL THINGS, UPRISE
to mention just a few grindcore ones.. Also 2 festivals are really great here.
Obscene Extreme for grindcore audience and Brutal Assault for the rest of extreme
metalheads. Check them out. ARE YOU EVER COMING TO TOUR SOUTH AMERICA? Actually yes! We should start 12 September in Brazil, going all the way up to Mexico.
All will take us more than 3 months. Cant wait! I guess there will be a lot of help
needed what concerns gigs, so if there is anybody interested just let me know. ANY PARTICULAR IDEA TO BE ADDED TO THIS INTERVIEW? I guess there could be some more questions to be asked and some more answers
to be answered, but let it be to some other interviewers so we have something
to talk about and listeners to read.. or actually yes, one thing. before we tour
your continent, we wanna record a new stuff and release it there, just short one,
