LETHAL FIRE

COLOMBIA

By Andrew Andruschenko For Terroraiser Magazine (Ukraine)

This interview was done to Alex Giraldo by Andrew Andruschenko from Terroraiser Magazine in June 2005

Alex Giraldo who are you? Tell me about your life in Colombia. Your family, business, hobby...

Hi Andrew, I’m a man with wife and one son. I listen classic metal bands since 1990.
I’ve gone to concerts of Megadeth, HammerFall, Monstrosity, Cradle of Filth, Kreator, Destruction, etc.
I’ve worked in a saloon and another things. My father was hijacked by the ‘guerrilla’…
well I’m a normal man who hates the drugs.

How you got idea to do the personal label. You liked this business.
Is in Colombia possible from music will got money? (In Ukraine impossible:))

I guess that in Colombia that's worse. I founded the label called Eternal Night to support metal bands,
the first CD released is Death Knell Comp, the CD is available into trades, I’ve done several trades with
people in Europe and they have like it. Then in 2003 I signed with Neurosis Inc to release its ‘Best of’
the title of that CD is “15 Años de Guerra (15 Years at War)” celebrating the 15th anniversary of that
Colombian legend. But our problem is the fucking piracy, but the people don’t know the damage that
they are doing to us. To have a label in Colombia is not a good business. I’ve done that CDs for love
to metal with my extra money and I haven’t recover it.

How difficult is it in Colombia (and your label) for metal bands to sign a contract?

In Colombia are a lot of bands, some of them ask me for a contract, and I guess that they ask to another
labels too. Later that bands release their albums by their own effort, that lets know our critical conditions ($$$)
I wanted to sign contract again with Neurosis Inc for their new CD but I didn’t have enough money
and they signed with another label right now.

How you got the idea to do the band? So how did you find the other members?
And what happened, your musicians left the band?

I composed several songs in my first band: Acrata which I was a guitarist , but that band finished in 1998.
I left the music for a long time, I was working and studying. In 2004 some men called me to start a new
5 members band and I named it Lethal Fire and I took the bass. My son born in those days and my partners
wrote the first songs. Every thing were perfect, until the fights into them came. Finally my partners had to left the band.
So I returned to my guitar and my old songs. I recorded 4 of them with the help of a friend which did the drums
and the engineering and I did bass, guitars and vocals. With this promo-demo Christian (one of the ex Lethal Fire)
returned to the band, now he’s the singer. Also another musicians arrived to enter to Lethal Fire, that new
members are glad in the band because Lethal Fire is the first band in this city (Ibague) that have recorded,
so I feel myself as a Death Metal pioneer here (ha, ha, ha…)

Vengeance Is Mine, this is your first release? Give me some information about this demo (lyrics, music)
and record process this demo, good and bad moments in studio. Do you like this demo?

Vengeance is Mine is only to promoting the band. The song ‘Into Battlefields’ speaks about the wars
in the different parts of the world and the suffering of another youths; the next song ‘Terrorland’ speaks
about our war in Colombia, this country has beauty places, but the terror is in every one and the pain is present;
the next song is called ‘Midnight Souls’ the inspiration is from the book Zarathustra of F. Nietzsche, it’s instrumental;
and the fourth song is in spanish: ‘Maldad (Evil)’ I wrote the lyrics in 1992 and the music in 2002 I like this song
very much, it maybe will appear in The Colombian Sound Terror Compilation from Bogota City.
The record process was in two days: march 24th (drums and bass section) and april 3rd (guitars and vocals section)
there weren’t bad moments. I liked the final result.

How are things with concerts?

The new members and I are planning to play as soon as we have a 60 minutes show to visit another cities.

How you like the present death / thrash metal in Colombia and world?
What new band would you recomend (I like MASACRE (old), TWILIGHT GLIMMER, WITCHTRAP,
NEUROSIS (old, but I no listen albums 2000-2005 ) and LETHAL FIRE)

In Colombia Death Metal is coming again, but in the last years started bands of Black, Gothic and fusions.
I did a concert on May 15th with Twilight Glimmer and Soulburner and both bands are playing brutal.
Neurosis and Masacre are our fathers. And about Lethal Fire the expectations are for the next year.
I wish that 2006 be a great year for us.
In the world I liked an Italian band: Golem, it signed with the french label Diamond Productions.
And I’m interested to know Ukrainian bands for my radio show and possible interviews for the webzine.

I Liked your demo, but when should we expect your debut album

Thanks Andrew, I’ve arranged another 6 old songs. I’d like to record them in January.
If my partners wish to continue in Lethal Fire they are allowed to write songs too, and in that way
we’ll have 8, 9 or 10 songs for a debut album. If they don’t wish to continue, I’ll try to compose 2
new songs for a total of 8 songs and the demo ‘Vengeance is Mine’ will provide the bonus tracks.
If some Europe label become to interesting, it would be a dream come true.

And...final words...

Thanks very much Andrew for the support to me and my activities. When I record new songs
I’ll send your copy. Also greetings to the readers of this great magazine I’d like to shake your hands.
Andrew, if you know people of Metal Radio Shows feel free to do copies of the promo-demo for them.
Up Terroraiser Magazine!!
