FREEVIL is a new Swedish band raised from the ashes of Denata.
Roger and Tomas teamed up with Mique Flesh from Seance / ex Witchery.
The album Freevil Burning is now ready to be printed and they are
still negotiating with labels to find the best deal.

Before FREEVIL, Roger and Tomas played in a great band called DENATA.
DENATA is finished or it will return?

As it feels right now we will let Denata rest for a long time but if it
ever feels good again and we have the time we will probably do another album.
We have not talked about it, nothing is planned but Denata is a band
that means a lot to me and Roger in and those 6 awesome years we had
so I guess sooner or later we will team up again and do another album
but I can’t say if it happens in 3 or 13 years or if it ever will happen!
So consider Denata as dead and then you will be happy if we rise again!
All our main focus is put on Freevil these days and that’s the most
important for us now! One good thing is that a best off album will be
release on Arctic Music Group this year featuring some left over studio
material, the first vinyl EP and some other goodies for all thrash o’holics!

When did you decide to start FREEVIL up?

The short story…. The lack of inspiration of Denata came in 03/04.
Mique was singing on the last rehearsals with Denata but then I just felt
sick of it all and talked to Mique and Roger and we said hell let’s do
something else, something different but still keep it metal and Freevil
was born! So Denata’s ashes built Freevil, at least if you ask me and
Roger, Mique would probably have another version.

Tell me about Freevil Burning (full length):
How was the process? Who were invited? Experiences in the studio…

We recorded the whole album in our own studio with Mique as technician
and he’s damn talent and get really good result compared to the equipment
we use. I have always been impressed of his studio talent and I don’t get
how he can get so fucking good productions. The mastering was handled by
Peter In De Betou and it got really good as well.
He has mastered a lot of major bands and really knows what he does.

Otherwise we just had a chick for some vocals on a track named Karin
Ljungberg. And last but not least our old brother in arms; Phanatos,
he did almost all keyboards and sound FX but he’s a lone wolf and did
not want to be a permanent member of Freevil, but he did almost work as
a permanent member but you can not get him in a band, he don’t want any
obligations and always want to go as session musician. But he will be
on next album as well unless something really strange happens.
He’s sick and awesome, lord of keyboard hehe!

We recorded parts of the album fast then we had long breaks arranging,
producing so it took pretty long time to get it done but at the same time
we did not have to be there all the time, we could take things as they
came which made the result exactly as we want it without stress.
How many times haven’t you been in a studio, max 2 weeks and everything
should be done and after a while you notice all those small things you
could have done better and then it’s too late….. It’s awesome to not be
working under that kind of press you normally have as underground/midsize band.

Is there any proposal of some label to release out this album?

This far we have been receving a few offers from labels but nothing really
worth mention. It’s that kind of labels that want you to sign their
contract without even getting your own expenses paid and not even have
descent distribution or anything. We are not asking for much but at least
we don’t want to pay for releasing a album on a label. Who would give
away their rights and also pay to give them away? I don’t get how they
can call themself labels doing things like that to bands? Anyway we had
some really good words from a few major labels but they say it’s “too
different” so they don’t dare to sign it? In my ears that’s really sick
cause different means it could sell well.... But maybe someone change their
mind sooner or later? We do have a interesting deal for the Japan market
now and let’s hope that one could be worth signing for. If we don’t get a
descent offer within a few months we will probably go for a license deal
covering Europe, Canada and US. At least the album will be released and
we will keep the rights then. So we’re just holding on for a while
more too see if something happens.

Are you planning to do some shows supporting this album?

All depends on what offers we would get and if the label would
arrange something good for us. So at this moment nothing is planned.

Which is the philosophical influence in your lyrics?

Most of the lyrics reflects my inner demons while some are pure fiction
and morbid ideas. I did all the main stuctures for the lyrics and Mique
and I arranged them together and he did some complimtens to them where
we needed. So the solid ground in all lyrics comes from me I guess and
it’s most about hate, depression, agony and suicidal stuff. I have been
living with deep depression and agony for over 15 years now and many of
the lyrics are a ironic view from my own experiences... I know how
brainfucked I get sometimes and then we you feel better it’s like you are
two different persons. Not that I’m schizo but it’s interesting to write
lyrics reflecting between these sick worlds you live in most of the time.
The positive nice guy and that depressed fuck everyhing guy and how you
twist and turn everything from day to day.....
It’s a ironic view of something that is for real!

Do you believe in the meaning of the dreams?

No I don’t but I believe in “the other side” without any gods!
“Just like ghosts we walk this house at nights”
as in Marionetts of Death with Denata hehe...

How is the present time in Sweden about Metal Festivals?

Well we have a few festivals here evervy year. The largest metal fest
is Sweden Rock festival and then you have have Decibel 2000 and some
other arrangements. But it’s not like in Germany which I prefer
a lot more than the Swedish festivals.

Are you only in FREEVIL right now? or do you play in other bands?

Roger and I are only in Freevil and Mique is still in his old death metal
band Seance! They are soon going to have a new album out but his main
priority is Freevil these days.

Recommend us other Swedish bands…

The Crown, Witchery, Katatonia, Phanatos, Bloodbath, Carnal Forge, Construcdead, Face Down.....

Let a message to our visitors…

If you come this far, thanx for writing the interview and hope you
will check us out! In the end it’s the fans that is important (you),
without you we’re nothing!! Mega mosh from Sweden, the place of sickness!
