Let’s Ride!: Clipping Tips

Bathe your horse before clipping.
When bathing, pay special attention to white markings. Make sure to scrub them clean, so after you clip you have very white marks.
If your horse is afraid of the clippers, put him in cross ties and turn them on, but don't touch him. Leave the clippers running while you pet him, groom him, and give treats to him. When he is not afraid of the sound anymore, slowly bring the clippers toward him. Let him sniff them. Then, put the back of the clippers on his body and let him get used to the vibration. Talk to him in a soothing voice and pet him. Then, gently start clipping. This may take more than one day, depending on the horse.
If your clippers have more than one setting (#10, #15, and #30), make sure your clippers are on a low setting, so you don't accidently give your horse a surgical cut.
