Let’s Ride!: Clipping the Ears

1. Use cotton roll to prevent the hairs falling ino the ear canal and to help deaden the buzz of the clippers.
2. Start by shaving the outside of the ear. Your horse should not object too much if he's used to having his bridlepath clipped.
3. With a #40 blade, begin clipping the inside of the ear against the lay of the hair, starting on the outside edge and working your way toward the center.
4. When you get the narrow base of the ear, expose the inner contours by gently flattening the ear in your hand. Point the clipper blades downward to make it easier to get into those tighter areas.
5. Clean up all the hair gently, as the inside of the ear is an extremely sensitive area. Your horse will feel it if you accidently jab him.
