Vocabulary
(15 points). You are given sentences and you need to
choose which of five choice best expresses the meaning of the underlined,
bolded word.
Grammar (10
points). You are asked to label five bolded,
underlined words’ parts of speech in a sentence. Further, you are asked to determine which
kind of verb complement is the bolded and underlined in five sentences.
Reading Comprehension (10
points). You are asked to read three
brief passages and answer multiple choice questions about them.
Multiple Choice
Literary Analysis. (20 points
total) You are asked 20 content
questions related to the major works read this semester. You should be familiar with literary terms we
used in class, as well as major characters and plot developments in Great Expectations, To Kill a Mockingbird,
and The Odyssey, as well as the short
stories we have read together.
Short Answer Literary
Analysis (15 points). You are given three tasks about the full length works we
have read together this semester. You
need to write a paragraph in response to each.
Critical Lens (30
points). You must analyze two literary
works from the perspective of the statement that is provided for you in the
critical lens, (i.e., the quotation provided to you). In your essay, provide a
valid interpretation of the statement, agree or disagree with the statement as
you have interpreted it, and support your opinion using specific references to
appropriate literary elements from the works that you have chosen. (You will be allowed to choose between two
critical lenses. For you essay you may
choose to discuss any two literary works we have read together this semester,
providing you choose at least one full-length text.)
