SWBAT:  revise their rough drafts.

DO NOW:  independent reading, check h.w. and get computers.

DEVELOPMENT:

  1. As students are doing their independent reading, they come up one at a time and get a computer.
  2. Log on and get your interview project out of your weblocker.
  3. Present mini-lesson on — narrative, as opposed to listing questions.  Tell your story, focus on the most important aspect of your interview.  What was the most important thing you learned from your storyteller?   Remember, that now, you are the story teller.  That is how life’s lessons are truly passed on from generation to generation.  If your story teller had merely listed facts, you would not have been interested or learned much.  Now you must tell the story.  Let the details about where you were, how you were seated perhaps or other setting elements as you tell your story.  Let details of what your story teller looks like emerge as you tell your own story.  Think of how Mitch let us know what Morrie looked like come out.  Give details that let us know what your relationship with your story teller is like.
  4. Students work./conference time.  If students are not finished, they may simply continue drafting, if student are “finished,” they may look for areas where they can add details.  Mostly I recommend they use the “movie behind the eyelid” technique to find added information to put in their piece.  Or, they may want to cut!  A very difficult concept, I realize.
  5. Students save draft to their weblocker.  Also, turn it in to me as second draft interview project.
  6. Review/summarize.

H.W.:  Complete Rev. Ex. A, p. 97.  Follow the directions.  2.  Independent reading.  3.  Work on your interview project.  Are there any points you are not clear on?  Call your storyteller and get some more information, if possible.
