Here are some pieces of literature that I'd recommend for anyone to read who wants to gain a better understanding of all the issues surrounding the transsexual and transgender community, and the lives of individual transsexuals. "MANTOOL" by Loren Cameron is a book available exclusively on the Internet. It contains photographs and personal stories of many FTMs who talk openly about their experiences with lower surgery. "BODY ALCHEMY" also by Loren Cameron is equally fabulously illustrated, with a more general approach to the different surgeries for both FTMs and MTFs. "TRANSGENDER WARRIORS - MAKING HISTORY FROM JOAN OF ARC TO DENNIS RODMAN" by Leslie Feinberg is a fascinating insight to the place of the transsexual in society over time. "TRANSMEN AND FTMS - IDENTITIES, BODIES, GENDERS AND SEXUALITIES" by Jason Cromwell. Personal stories and photos delivering information what the title promises. "OUT OF THE ORDINARY - ESSAYS ON GROWING UP WITH GAY, LESBIAN AND TRANSGENDER PARENTS" by Nowell Howey, Ellen Samuels, Margarethe Cammermeyer and Dan Savage - this book will help those with children, and the children themselves. "THE WHITE BOOK" by Dr Stephen Whittle is an indispensable guide to all the things you'll need to know as a British transsexual man. "FEMALE TO MALE TRANSSEXUALS IN SOCIETY" by Holly Devor. Full of the types of facts you need on hand when you're trying to convince your parents or friends or boss or whatever that you're not insane. Perfect for those nit-picky legal types who always want precedents and statistics! |
