Background Facts

Origin of the Title

My Date with a Vampire is technically not a direct translation of the Chinese title. Many fans have translated it as I have a Date with a Vampire. This is due to the fact that the Chinese title of this series was rolled off from the title of a successful musical in Hong Kong, namely, I have a Date with Spring. Incidentally, Joey Meng had acted in an ATV series of the same title (which was an adoption of the musical) before the birth of the My Date with a Vampire series.

I am not sure why the Taiwan version uses Vampire Detective as their Chinese title, but it sure sounds like a roll off of title from a previous ATV series as well. But this time, it makes more sense because it is the prequel of My Date with a Vampire, it is called Vampire Expert, starring the famed Hong Kong vampire movie series actor Lam Ching-Ying.

English: My Date with a Vampire
Cantonese: Ngo Wo Geung Si Yau Go Yeuk Wui
Mandarin: Wo He Jiang Shi You Ge Yue Hui

  3. Original soundtrack was released also
  4. Was produced in 1999 by ATV

My Date with a Vampire 3

  1. It is a tribute to the producer of MDWAV1 & MDWAV2, Mr. Sin Chi-Wai, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 34.
  2. Extra title line translation is in dispute on the internet: most ppl call it Eternal State, I've translated it as Everlasting Realm
  3. Has 36.5 episodes in Hong Kong broadcasted version, released in Chinese subtitled VCD format in Oct. 2004
  4. Original soundtrack was released also in Dec. 2004, published by Worldstar (HK)

As the fans tried to lift her up, they have used that chance to touch her breasts. Afterwards, security guard had beaten the suspect up a little as a punishment.
  8. Mango Wong Sau-Lum sued Eric Wan Tin-Chiu for sexual harassement during the filming of MDWAV3. Mango Wong says that she was harassed by Eric in the car when he drove her home one night after work. Preface

After years of efforts, <<My Date with a Vampire 3 - Everlasting Realm>> was finally presented to our beloved audience...
In the past two parts, you [fans across the internet] have communicated with me through the internet. There were discussions on <<MDWAV>>, and chats about general topics on life. No matter if your comments were positive or negative, they have taught me a lot. Although I have a busy schedule today, and cannot chat as long as I had in the past, I still hope that you will let me hear your wonderful suggestions. As long as they are constructive comments, I will try to reply to all of them in the first two weeks of the series premiere. And I will also share all my experiences in the making of MDWAV3...
Perhaps, <<MDWAV3>> does not earn an "A+", but this is the fruit of our hard work.

I remembered that a lot of writers have difficulty during the scriptwriting phase of MDWAV 1,2,3, and they left the creative department. One of the major reasons for their resignation is that the work is too demanding and my expectation is too high. They've said that at other places, the same type of storyline is already good enough, but they saw that I just keep frowning after I read it.

Perhaps, my demand is high, but have they ever thought how more demanding are our existing fans of the <<MDWAV>> series? To satisfy them, every member of the crew should take care of their duties. Especially the people who are responsible for the first step, which are the story creators. That's why, every time, when each part of <<MDWAV>> begins its producion, my team and I have to start our journey to hell. And every time, we are almost made to believe that we will never be resurrected...and that sometimes anger a lot of the crew members... But all of that suffering was due to the fact that I demand each participant to give out their best performance...

And each time the show was broadcasted, I would start to have this weird feeling between heaven and hell when I begin to chat with you guys. As expected, I have faced a lot of complaints from all the "vampires" [fans] out there, telling me all the mistakes and deficient points of <<MDWAV>>. Someone believes that my entrance into the world wide web was a calculative measure. But of course! I do have my own special secret mission -- which is to be a learner. Too many creators hide in their own library, and writes day and night, thinking that their stories are the most awesome things that have happened in the world. But who would have known that when facing the criticism of the crowd, their "so-called" creative offsprings are just so vulnerable!

At this moment, I want to know my weakness.

So, as I return to ATV this time, I let all my coworkers to be the critics of my writing, both in <<Love in a Miracle>> and in <<MDWAV3>>... No matter what their ranks are, all members have the right to criticize. And because of all these suggestions, the script was altered and rewritten... And all of these were done for a group of demanding audience!

Maybe <<MDWAV3>> is still as deficient as the other MDWAV parts of the past [or maybe even more so], but I am still glad to chat online this time. Because I believe that <<MDWAV>> has actually nourished a band of loyal fans, and they are not the type who follows blindly. Due to their demands on logical explanations, and their love of the series, they become very powerful critic with fair evaluations! As long as audience like you exist, I will have the power to write creatively. Also, I will ignore useless censure, continue to stand my ground and let my own style shine. Don't we all know that the uniquely styled <<MDWAV>> was never written for the conservative mainstream media?
