Candy

This is my dearly departed, best friend and kitty, Candy. We knew each other since we were young. I found him one fatefull day when my brother, some of our frinds and I were playing out side, near the apartment building where we used to live. His previous owner had attempted to kill him by poking at him and trying to get him to fall off a four story window ledge. Candy didn't budge. instead the mean old man called down to us and asked if we wanted a cat. And so it began.

Candy was passed along like the perverbial 'hot potatoe'. He scratched and clawed my frind, my brother's friends, my brother, then was dumped into my arms. I was the only one he didn't hiss or attack. We walked back to my place and tried and assortment of names for the little guy, non of which he approved. this lasted until I proclaimed his name to be Candy. Everyone whined and complained that it was a girl's name and he was a boy. we brought up this point with my folks and they said it could be both. So it stuck. candy just happened to be his favorite food groop anyway.

My parents weren't too keen on keeping him at first. We lived in an apartment and plus we already had a cat, Poochie. My family all said that candy was one ugly cat. He looked more like a bat really, but I thought he was cute. One night when I was asleep and my father planned to take the young kitten to the humane society, my parents walked into my room to see a very precious sight. There was candy sleeping next to me, patting my cheek. My mother turned to my father and said "There's no way you're going to break them apart." And so we stayed together for 17 years.

Candy bloomed into one of the most adorible bits of fluff you ever did see. My mother said it was because of all the love we gave him. I think she's right. A few years ago Candy and Poochie were diagnosed with diabeties. Candy almost died at one point but with our love and care he went into remission, and stayed that way until this year when it came back, bringing with it a fatal liver disease. Candy died on March 23rd, 2000, at about 8:00 pm, in his sleep. he couldn't have lived a more full or happy life.

Candy was known as the Party Animal. He used to climb up to where there was parties going on and eat their junk and drink all their beer. When ever he was ill he'd warn us by yodeling. He'd normally get sick at night, when we were half asleep, and there would be some hilarious times as we'd try to find him.

His favorite food was bar-b-que chips, desert: chocolate ice cream, but what ever we were eating was just fine with him. he loved to watch The Slayers anime, as well as Sailor Moon, EScaflowne, and Clamp detectives.

When we moved into a nice little house he used to tease the poor puppies that lived nearby. One unfortunate scottie dog was teased unmercifully. You see he was tied up, everyday, on a leash that was about half a meter short of reaching the side walk. Candy knew this. He'd mosey on over and watch that poor demented pup charge him barking like mad only to spring back at the end of his leash and land smack on his back. This would go on for hours. When the little scottie dog was too tired and about to give up, Candy would place one paw on its law and meow, causing the hilarity to start all over again.

Candy used to follow me to school every day and he would come home only when I called him. He still slept on my bed and listened to my tales. He was a very good friend.

Its hard to tell who in my family misses him more. I get all teary eyed when ever i put on some anime and see that he's not there to watch them with me. His brother Poochie still calls for him at night. he never used to meow much but now he's pretty loud. But in fact we all miss him and we all will remember the wonderful things he brought to his family. And so I dedicate this shrine to his memory. Rest In peace sweet heart.

Poochie

This is my dearly departed, best friend and kitty, Poochie; Candy's older brother. He had been in our family almost forever. He came to us, one fatefull night, in a friends car, to the Spanish club. See Poochie was an alley kitten, and since no one would take him home, we did. He was our first cat. When we got him home to our apartment he was so well behaved. I looked at him and told my mother, "He's a cute poochie cat!" and so he gained the name Poochie, from a young toddler who hadn't yet grasped the ability to pronounce properly.

Poochie was the family cat. He took care of the children, me and my bro, rasied his adopted brother Candy, and from time to time, chased off dogs. Quite an amazing feat for just a little kitten. He used to tattle on us whenever we did something wrong. He'd wait by the door for my parents to get home. When my mother entered he'd start his grumble/mew that told her something had happened. She'd ask him questions such as "was is Mariel? Javier?" whomever's name he mewoed 'yeah' to mom would call and demand they say what happened.

Poochie was a little cutie pie of a cat. He was soo adorable that people would mistake him for a her. My old neighbors used to call him "Peaches" insted of "Poochie" and invite him in for a treat. One time this lady was walking by and saw how cute he was. She pet him and called him a sweetie and then picked him up and tried to take him home with her. Luckily my mom saw this and stoped her.

Poochie passed away, after his operation to remove a cancerous growth, from heart failiure; July 6th, 2000 at about 7:30pm. At least he died knowing we loved him and were able to say goodbye. He doesn't have to look for his brother anymore, because they'll be together forever. We all miss Poochie terribly, and we all will remember the wonderful things he brought to his family. And so I dedicate this shrine to his memory and as well as his brothers. Rest In peace sweet heart.
