On the Edge
Here we stand
On the edge of eternity,
Looking back on the paradise we have created
And forward to what lies ahead.
Hand in hand we hold together,
Prepared to take that first step
Into the unknown,
A step we have taken time and time before,
Yet this time it is different,
The goal so much greater
The will so much stronger
And the chasm so much deeper
It is so close, almost tangible
So near that we can almost
Reach out and touch the other side
With little effort
Yet, at the same time
It is nothing greater
Than what we have already faced
And have endured,
Though not without some strife and struggle,
Only to become stringer in the end.
This is nothing that we should fear;
It cannot break these bonds.
Though even now I hear my heart
Beating against my chest,
Pumping blood through my veins in rapt anticipation.
As I fall into this light
That rises from he blackest night
I am bathed in its warmth and comfort,
This feeling of joy surging through me.
Then I wake
To find myself laying in your arms
And I know that we have reached the shore
As the sun rises on another day.
