to make it easier:

a good way to memorize the words is to look at ones that are alike [next week, this week, last week are konshu, senshu raishuu] or you can see words in another word [like mayonaka, if you remember naka that means middle] or what sounds silly but what i did was point at objects repeatedly and says its name in japanese lol. if you are learning [or atleast trying to learn] the least you can do is learn one word a day, it may stop you from overwhemling yourself.

Saying the Time

"Ji" means "o'clock." "Fun (pun)" means "minutes." To express the time, say the hours first, then the minutes, then add "desu". There is no special word for quarter hours. "Han" means half, as in half past the hour. The hours are quite simple, but you need to watch out for four, seven and nine.

4 o' clock yo-ji (not yon-ji)
7 o' clock  shichi-ji (not nana-ji)
9 o'clock   ku-ji (not kyuu-ji)

Demons and Gods

Youkai- plain, old demons

Toshigami- the god of the incoming year. he inspects the houses of japanese people Dec. 13,[hmm sounds like Santa? lol] He is supposed yo bring in luck for the new year...or was is take away evil spirits? one of those two. Sounds like a nice guy to me.

Oni- demons or ogres, huge and have horns

Kappa - live both on land and in water. migites. They have a beak-like snout, and fins on their hands and feet. They have a shell on their back, and a water-filled dish on their head[the water in the dish gives them thier supernatural powers]They are though to drag people into the water and  pull out their livers.

Rokurokubi
- Female demons with long, flexible necks. They look just like ordinary humans during the day, scary at night because  they extend their necks to frighten and spy on people furthermore sometimes turn their faces into those of demons.

Yuki-Onna[my favorite]-A snow woman, or ice apparition that appears in a white kimono on a stormy night. She causes travelers to become lost and freeze to death.
She is patient and doesnt like to leave anyone who sees her alive. She is a very decieving, beautiful yuokai. She reminds me of Yukina from YYH.

Tengu- a mountain goblin with  a red face and extremely long nose, and carries a "hauchiwa (feathered fan)." He is part man and part bird, and they have supernatural powers. They are mischievous more then than evil. They are belived to steal children, especially during the Kamakura preiod [119-1333]

Tengu are worshipped by "yamabushi (mountain priests)," and they usually wear the costume of "yamabushi" with tall "geta (wooden clogs)." Minamoto Yoshitsune (a great warrior in 12th century) is famous for being taught martial arts and strategy by a tengu on Mt. Kurama, north of Kyoto.
