I think that may depend on the airport. I went to the Tulsa Int'l airport a couple of months ago to pick up my sister and the eyelets from my hiking boots set the thing off. After checking my pockets again they ran me through it several times before they broke out "the Wand". They passed it over my body and it went off at my boots. Hmmmm...... FWIW

I was in Las Vegas in December of last year. Of course, I went to many casinos. Well, I got my hand dirty, as everyone does when playing slot machines. So I picked up some of those hand wipes that are at all the casinos. I forgot that they were in my jacket. When I went through the metal detectors at the airport, they went bonkers. No knowing they were in my pockets, I took everything out of my pockets. Finally I had to have the wand treatment. They went to my jacket pockets. They said, take everything out of the pockets. All they had in them were the hand wipes. The $6.00 an hour guard said " those thing are lined with tin foil, so they set of the metal detector.
I think the detector are bullshit. But what can us lowly peons do about it. There is no longer a Constitution.
