Hi all!
Yesterday, Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, a special meeting was held for Pima County Libertarian Party Precinct Committeemen (PCM) to choose a new county chairman since Terry Bishop resigned last month. Following is a summary of that meeting:
- Prior to the votes, a report was given that 22 PCMs were credentialed and in attendance. This was greater than the quorum required by our bylaws. (Later in the meeting, another PCM arrived, but after the voting took place.)
- There was an ammendment to revise the bylaws to use the most recently published version of Robert's Rules of Order (rather than a particular issue) during party business meetings. This motion was passed.
- Bob Bushkin, acting chair, was elected as Chairman of the Pima County Libertarian Party
- Dan Starr was elected to Bob's vacated officed, that of First Vice Chairman
- An announcement was made of the 2/28/00 Libertarian Forum, which will host a debate regarding the prohibition of firearms in public parks. This will take place at 7 pm at the Wilmot Library. Expect an announcement regarding this soon, although a copy of the flyer (in gif format) is attached to this. The Libertarian Forum is the new format for our "outreach" meetings.
- Dan Starr explained the recently-instituted organization of the Pima County Libertarian Party, with eight divisions to handle the various business of the party. If you would like a copy of this divisional chart, please email me (subject line: pclp divisional chart) and I'll follow up to get a copy to you via email.
- Discussion about precinct committeemen elections - all will have to run in the September election. Petitions will be available in March (few signatures are required) and must be filed about mid-June. Write-in candidates must file about late-August.
- We are seeking candidates for various offices. Please contact Bob Bushkin (whigdout@azstarnet.com) if you are interested.
- There was some discussion about the state party and the hornet's nest of activity between the national affiliate (chaired by Peter Schmerl) and the "Maricopa Faction".
- A reminder: The primary to choose our Presidential candidate will take place on 2/22. Please vote for your favorite! Sally Milo, Communications Division
