The Justice Policy Institute has projected that on February 15, the U.S. prison and jail population will reach 2 million persons. More than half of those imprisoned are nonviolent offenders. The largest category, by criminal offense, are drug law violators.
Our friends at Students for Sensible Drug Policy and The November Coalition are holding a vigil on the east Capitol steps from Noon until 5 PM. Family members of drug war prisoners will speak at 1 PM.
Libertarian Party Political Director Ron Crickenberger will be attending, and urges fellow Libertarians to come out in opposition to the failed war on drugs.
Please join us to oppose the mass imprisonment of nonviolent citizens in the name of the drug war.
