If you look at the mail in voter registration form you'll find some things interesting.
#6 states: Telephone Number ____________ (unless unlisted)
#14 states: executing a false registration is a class 6 felony.
If I were 18 years old and filling this out, I would be worried NOT to put my phone number on the form if it were "listed" (whatever that means).
Also of note, are the blanks for your (and none of these say "optional" any more -
#12 Father's name or Mother's maiden name
#9 Occupation
#10 last four didgits of your Soc. Sec. Number
#11 Indian Cencus Number
#8 Birth Date
Block #16 states: If you do register to vote, the office at which I submit the voter registration application will remain confidential and will be used for voter registration purposes. {This is not a typo. I have no odea what this means. I say that it was put there to confuse people into thinking that the information would be confidential. But, if you read it closely you'll see that it doesn't say that. It says that the, "...office at which I submit the voter registration application will remain confidential..." I say, "So flipp'n what".
The first versions of this form use to say that the Phone # was "optional". It doesn't say that any more does it?
KFYI's morning show today (Sat. 2/12/00) understood and supported what we are doing and why. They had a legislator on that got an ear full. After being beat up by the hosts and a caller, she admitted that it needed to be looked into, blah blah blah.
This subject won't go away as long as the press thinks that we will make the list available on the net Feb 23rd. "IF" we do not, it won't be because it wasn't legal to do so. Then I guess the only thing that would stop us would be,... Principle,... Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
