from what i have read the number can be turned on remotely, say you down load a web page with a java program the java program could turn on the number. but hey i have a 486 computer and wouldnt know high tech things like that on a 1st hand basis.

correct!

but i didnt mean to imply that the person was a criminal. or had commited a crime. many times the police ASSUME that because your in the area of a crime that YOUR the criminal and the PIGS expect you to prove YOUR not GUILTY. (oppsite of the law). if something happened at a site and your CPU serial number was there the pigs might make the same assumption that because your CPU number was at the site there fore your a criminal.

kinda like the mill avenue incident when the pigs in tempe assumed because you guys had guns you were criminals. incorrect assumption on the pigs part but the pigs still fucked you over, violated your civil rights and wasted your time.
