Unlike many of you I am now many decades from High School. But I still remember how incredibly boring and totally meaningless the American History classes were in that penal institution. One reason for that is that history has just two interrelated lessons, repeated over and over and over in High School American History - the lessons are that (1) everything that happened was good, or was shortly set right, and that (2) the federal government was the persistent instrumentality of the triumph of good, right, and reason over evil, selfishness and narrow interest groups [generally exploiting capitalists of one stripe or another].
