Stop double-fleecing
It's not uncommon for law enforcements officers to work until they earn an early retirement, then take a new job in another law enforcement agency.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has added an outrageous new spin to that practice: He recently accepted the resignation of his chief deputy, then turned around and reappointed him to the same job as a civilian employee that enables the chief deputy to collect his $51,000 annual pension along with his $119,000 annual salary.
Arpaio doesn't mind pinching pennies when it comes to dealing with prisoners, who get bologna sandwiches in his jail. Taxpayers aren't likely to see a dime of savings if Arpaio's double-fleecing isn't halted.
