Subject: Arizona Republic insert

One of our campaign pieces is due to appear tomorrow as an insert in editions of the Arizona Republic delivered to Phoenix subscribers living north of Thomas Rd. If you are one of said subscribers please look for the insert and let me know whether your paper had it or not. The text (but not the format) of the insert is shown below.

Thanks.

TEXT OF INSERT

SIDE ONE

PHOENIX VOTERS AND TAXPAYERS . . .
DONT BUY THE TROLLEY FOLLY.

Theyre at it again. City bureaucrats are after your hard-earned money. Proposition 2000 will raise your taxes and spend $4.8 billion over the next 20 years.

And for what? The proposed bus and light rail trolley system will handle less than 1% of the travel in the Valley. The taxpayer burden will be over $200 million per year.

Admit it. Youre not going to be riding that trolley. It wont take you where or when you need to go. At an average speed of 16 mph, the trolley is too slow to lure you out of your car -- or your neighbor out of his. [the table of comparative speeds of buses, light rail and cars is shown here]

SIDE TWO

The Only Guarantee Is Higher Taxes.

Poor value for our tax dollars. The new and improved bus and trolley system will have less than a 1% impact on traffic. Suppose you bought a bottle of pills advertised as pain relievers only to discover that they reduced your pain by less than 1%. Wouldnt you feel cheated? How will you feel if you have to pay $4.8 billion in taxes to get less than one percent traffic relief?

So what can we do about it?

Vote NO on the TRAN$IT TAX Tuesday, March 14
