Ernest Hancock to Discuss Voter Privacy
When: Saturday, March 11, 2000 - 8am
Where: Arizona Breakfast Club
Ramada Inn 502 W Camelback
Maricopa County Libertarian Party chairman Ernest Hancock has accepted the invitation of the Arizona Breakfast Club to address them on the topic of privacy of voter registration data. Among the aspects of Hancocks discussion will be whether or not such data should be accessible via the internet, and under what conditions.
Another prominent aspect of the issue is the little known fact that Arizona law allows for judges and law enforcement officers to keep their personal voter data private and unaccessable. Hancock is seeking to allow all voters this option.
This aspect, according to Hancock, is all the more relevent in light of the March 2 beating of 1994 Libertarian Party U.S. Senate candidate Scott Grainger by Mesa police. Hancock will outline the circumstances that led to Graingers beating and describe why he believes that, by providing police with special privacy protection, lawmakers are encouraging the sort of unprovoked brutality that Grainger was subjected to.
