After writing the Tucson citizen in re: the preemption bill a few days ago, I got a call today from a Citizen reporter who said he had a follow-up question. The question was two parts. 1. Did I write it myself and did anyone tell me to write it? I told him yes and no, respectively.
He then candidly told me that in response to a public request for opinion, the Citizen received a mass of mail, (over 100 letters and emails) which said essentially the same thing I did and that his editors told him to call random writers to ask them the above questions, to determine if this was a covert lobby effort of mass mailing. He then told me that the Citizen received NO mail in opposition to the bill in response to their request for opinions.
He also asked me if I was a member of Brass Roots and I told him no. He said I should join because, and I quote: "they are a very effective group." He then stated he is a shooter and gun owner and is a voice in the wilderness in his shop. We talked more at length about shooting, but this is the gist of the purpose for his call to me this morning.
