Another Houston area convenience store clerk has fought back against suspected robbers, this time leaving a suspect dead Sunday night.

The two incidents, both within a week, followed the recent slayings of five convenience store owners or operators during three separate robberies.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a clerk at a northeast county store shot and killed one of three people reportedly trying to rob him about 10:15 p.m. Sunday night. The two other people fled the scene, the Tex-Mex Food Store in the 4300 block of Charriton. Further details weren't available late Sunday.

On Wednesday, a clerk at a store in southeast Houston fought back against two armed robbers, and won.

After trying to talk the robbers into leaving with the store's money, Khoa Dang Nguyen, 28, opened fire, fearing they would kill him and four other people trapped in the small store.
