Front desk I had them check my gun at the House of Reps. Of course DPS had called Groscost to tell him that I had a gun (I'm sure he said something like,... Duh). I got it returned when I left. No big deal.
Various people at the meeting. Ex-Senator Henderson (democrats), a lobbyist (I got a very Republican feel from), a couple of staff and a lobbyist for the AFL-CIO (labor-union-democrats).
I made myself very clear. We want the ability to keep our private data private with options on the voter form. And the listed voters would be available for anyone at a VERY reasonable cost. The labor guy has been pushing a killed bill that would make the whole list available to anyone ("for political purposes only") for $50 a thousand. I said I would give it to him for free.
Staff is going to try to push for the liberalization of the data access and leave the privacy issue for next session.... right.
I simply reminded them that the people are pissed about their personal data being available at all and that their wanting to give greater access to it without limiting the data a voter must have out in the public domain would cause us to encourage young people to talk the issue over with their parents and grandparents and consider NOT registering at all to vote until this is fixed to their satisfaction. And we would make a very big (thank you for the issue) deal about it in the coming election.
Stories will come out Sat or Sunday on the legislative "solution". Keep in mind that the Legislature will be done in 2 weeks.
Just the highlights.
The reality is that the legislators will hear about this from their districts and try to position themselves. I say we have a very big issue to do some good for us in the coming elections.
Stay tuned,... this is how the game is played.
