I left Ohio State in June of 1967. I spent the summer working for the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department and trying to figure out what it was that had caused me to spend three months at home after college. It seemed as though all the girls I had known in high school were married, about to be married or off on some after college spree. My dad couldn’t watch a news show with out talking back to the commentator and blaming everything on “Those smart-ass-think-they-know-it-all college students. The days and nights dragged by until I actually looked forward to going in if for no other readon than to get the hell out of home and Dayton, Ohio.
At last August ended. I traded in my beat up VW bug for a brand new Camaro Convertible, picked up my fraternity little brother and headed West; across America, down the California coast, in and out of Mexico and back again. If I had to go in to the army at least I would do it in style and with a great road story to tell. Next Story Return to Contents |
