Troubleshooting help for the virtual reality worlds

The most common reason for not seeing a virtual-reality world in your browser is that you need to download the Viscape plug-in and install it on your computer. I recommend:
-downloading the file below;
-unpacking the file with either Winzip oor PKUNZIP (unpacks one file called VISCAPE.EXE);
-restarting your PC in safe mode;
-installing the file VISCAPE.EXE;
-performing a full shut down, and then ccold reboot;
-reconnecting to the web to view the Maggic City or the Haunted Mansion (on my web pages).

To download the plug-in for Windows 95 / 98 / NT v4 / 2000, click here (4,238,704 bytes).

You will also need Internet Explorer 4 (or above) or Netscape Navigator 4 (or above). System requirements for Viscape are Pentium (or Pentium equivalent CPU) running at 300 MHz. If using Windows NT, log on as administrator before installing Viscape.

Q: I have downloaded the Viscape installation application, but when I try and run it I get the error that 'the cabinet file is corrupt'.
A: This is due to an error in the file you have downloaded caused by either the file not downloading completely or by an error occurring during download. This can be quite a common occurrence when downloading files over the Internet (depending on how stable your connection to the Internet is), but unfortunately it does mean that you will need to download the Viscape installation file again.

Q: When loading a web page with a virtual world an error message appears saying " 'viso.svr' file invalid ".
A: The web page is trying to load a corrupted cached download. This can be cured by clearing your 'Temporary Internet Files', in either the Internet Settings option in Control Panel, if you are using Internet Explorer, or the Preferences option in Netscape Navigator. It will also be necessary to empty the C:\Windows\Temp (or similar) directory as it can also hold temporary files relating to the worlds. Once this has been done you can reload the original web page.

Q: When trying to view the Magic City or Haunted House, I get a "failed to create empty document" error.
A: There is no DOS environment path set for a 'temp' folder. Go to a DOS prompt and type:
C:\>PATH=%PATH%;C:\TEMP
You will also need to empty the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory. If you are using Windows NT, make sure that you are logged on as the administrator or that you have full access to the temporary directory.
