My latest documentary “Magnetism of Memory” is about Andrey Tarkovsky 's unknown visit to the city of Ivanovo in 1976. It features interviews with organizers of that visit, with people who had a chance to see and hear Tarkovsky speaking about “Mirror” in front of his countrymen 30 years ago. Unique pictures, recently disclosed articles and archival materials, autographs and documents, signed by the director during his stay in this city are widely used in the film. Those events evolve in the background of Tarkovsky’s reflections on cinema, borrowed from his “Diaries” and “Sculpting in Time”. Original shootings were carried out in his native Zavrazhie, Yurievets, Ivanovo, and also in Italy and France.
