Assam-Adder: 40-Number Adder
that Edits & Recalls
v2.2
Big addition sums, with tens of contributing numbers to be added up, are an integral part of any business, any association or even any household. Assam-Adder, tailor-suited for just this need, is an intuitive, as if on-paper, 40-number adder calculator that can add up to forty contributing later-modifiable terms, whether very large (up to several billions) or very small (up to a few millionth parts of one). There are also special provisions for multiple occurrences of the same term within a given calculation. Any earlier addition problem, in any one of its past modifications, may be instantly located & recalled here, so as to be re-calculated or further modified. This facility is particularly useful for businesses and organizations needing to recall old calculations. In Assam-Adder, text version of any current or even any past calculation may also be immediately obtained as a 'session report', which may be copied to any word-processor document and then easily formatted and/or printed.
This Windows software
(screenshot shown below) has been developed (using the
Visual FoxPro 6 platform) by
Rituraj Kalita,
a resident of Guwahati, Assam (India) first during June, 2003 in a rudimentary
non-recalling form (Add40Num), and is now being distributed as a freeware (i.e.,
free software) by Eastern
Star Software, Guwahati.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. I know that we may run
Assam-Adder by double-clicking at the desktop icon named 'assam-adder - 40-no,
recalling'. But in my case, where is that desktop icon?
I'm sorry that in your case the Assam-Adder Installer was unable to copy
the shortcut (link) icon (file) to your Windows desktop -- for most of
the computers it succeeds! But you may easily do that yourself. To do this
yourself, open the working folder (e.g., C:\Assam_Adder), starting from,
say, 'My Computer'. From that working folder find and copy the link-file
named 'assam-adder - 40-no, recalling' (see picture of that link-file
below), and then paste that link-file to your 'Windows desktop' to
facilitate running the Assam-Adder application in future.
2. I keep getting an error message:
'Row or column position is off the screen!' whenever I try to run (i.e.,
open) Assam-Adder. Where is the problem?
Most probably your monitor (VDU) screen resolution (screen area in
Windows terminology) is not set to a level high enough (i.e., at least to a
level of 800 by 600 pixels). You may try improving this particular Windows
setting (via Control Panel - Display), or as a simpler option may also
try changing the aforesaid desktop-icon's properties to have Assam-Adder
always run in 'full-screen (i.e., maximized) window' mode - this solution
also generally works.
3. In
Assam-Adder, how can we cater for multiple occurrences (say, thrice) of the same
term (say, 1450) within a given addition, without typing that term several times
(say, three times)?
In such a case, simply type the number (say, 3) of multiple occurrences of that
term (say, 1450) in the corresponding right (i.e., the 'factor') side space for
that term. [Note: In case of single (i.e., usual) occurrences, just leave that
'factor' side space as it is (i.e., as ' 1') or may even keep that space blank
(which would just mean 1 in Assam-Adder v2.2)]
4. How to backup the addition-history?
The addition-history resides only in the file named Addn_Hist (exactly
speaking, named Addn_Hist.dbf) in the working folder (generally, the
folder C:\Assam_Adder). So, to backup the addition-history, just backup
this particular file (say, to a removable pen-drive). When your hard-disk fails,
first re-install Assam-Adder, then copy this file back into the
Assam-Adder working folder.
5. Why can't I change the
Assam-Adder addition-history? Can I renew (i.e., reset) it?
Why, history shouldn't be changed, isn't it? But you may surely erase the entire
addition-history at one go, if you really feel over-burdened with this heritage
of addition-history! To do that, just delete the above-mentioned file (Addn_Hist.dbf)
- you'll see that your addition-history hhas been renewed, i.e., got reset.
