The stainless steel gudgeons were thru-bolted to the transom with ny-lock nuts on the inside of the hull.
The stainless deck straps were installed near the quarter knees on the transom by thru-bolting to the ny-lock nuts that were previously counterbored on the outboard side and covered with teak plugs.
Meanwhile the seats received a thorough sanding and 8 coats of varnish at home in preparation for installation once the rest of the work on the interior of the dinghy was complete.
The seats were now temporarily installed to facilitate measuring for the positive foam floatation. This will be contained in a total of five fiberglass boxes beneath the seats.
Both the Gunnel Guard and the hardware to attach it arrived so I decided to move on to that phase of the project. Attaching the Gunnel Guard required a wood screw driven down through the top mounting flange as well as another screw driven in to the gunwhale from the side. These screws were on 4 inch centers except at the bow where they were on 2.5 inch centers. I'll let you do the math, but to the best of my recollection the total was in the neighborhood of 130 screws that had to be driven.
Below are several photos of the installed Gunnel.
Closed cell foam floatation was added by installing it in fiberglass boxes beneath the seats. The boxes were actually window planter boxes that fit quite well. The bow seat had to have a 2 inch diameter hole cut through the box as well as the foam to allow for stepping of the mast.
