This is Pal Shirmir's XM Hardtop. It's a Futura, and I believe the colour is known as Koala Beige. It is in original condition with the 170 and 2 speed Fordomatic auto, and original plates. I've has it about six months, but it has only been on the road a few weeks now. I was suprised at how little it needed for roadworthy - just upper ball joints, indicator switch cancel plate and a couple of other small items. It's great fun to drive, and I will probably rebuild the 170 in the Future with a mild cam, and more compression to give it a bit more power. It had some original accessories on it when I bought it like the hub caps, and number plate frames, and I have managed to find some other accessories such as the locking Falcon chrome fuel cap, clear shark fins (not on the car yet), and an original picnic radio.
The Fordomatic needed a rebuild as it wasn't changing when I bought the car. A few transmission shops quoted me around $900 to reco it, so I decided to have a go at rebuilding it myself. I got a rebuild kit from the USA via Ebay for only $70 delivered.
I got a rebuild kit from the USA via Ebay for only $70 AUS delivered, and after dismantling it and checking/replacing everything that needed replacing, it is now working well.
It had the 14" rims and XP disc brake setup on it when I got it, but I have since replaced the rotors with new DBA items which made a big difference to the braking - which is now better.
Down the track I will respray it as the paint is a bit faded, it has a few layers of paint from resprays, and I will eventually want to get rid of the vinyl roof, so when I do it, it will be a full on, bare metal job. For now, i'm just enjoying driving it daily, and tracking down bit's and pieces for it.
