Seedhead of a bulb Hi,
This spectacular beauty is hiding under the back hedge - after seeing one, I found another dozen. They look as if they are the seeds of an orchid. Sunday we found them in the church yard, and they are called locally, Lords and Ladies. They are poisonous. Later I found a gardening catalogue offering 'Arum Italicum' in packs of 10 bulbs for UK pounds 2.95.
The garden has ripe plums - two varieties if I add the purple ones leaning over the fence from Roger's garden.

May God smile on you today,
Elizabeth

House Rose and hydrangea Scotch thistle
The lawns have been mown, the roses are having their second flowers, and the hydrangea is at its best after last week's rain. The thistle is looking tatty - it is on the road side of the front hedge. This shot has Vic's new wrought iron lace and his new corner post as the foreground.

Found during a walk
We looked at the map, and decided to try the walking trach that starts across the road. But when we got to the second style we saw we would be the first to tackle the nettles and briars, so we turned back, and walked along the road to the next track. We saw the maize is now as tall as me, the apple orchard is nearly up to harvest, and the pine tree planting has many thistles. The plums in a hedge are tasty.
Blackberries Tree with red berries
These are growing in our front hedge. I recognise the blackberries, will have to ask a neighbour what the others are.
Abenhall Tomb Scratch sun dial
We saw Sunday was sunny, so decided to do a walk described in a book called 'Pub Walks in the Forest of Dean'. We parked at the Lamb Inn, and then walked up the narrow road to the Abenhall church. We looked at the across country paths and agreed they are rough. This church was originally a Chapel of Ease for pilgrims visiting a nearby holy well, and was built between 1300 and 1450. It is surrounded by farms, potatoes are being lifted this week. It's treasure is a very old font, and today Erin Laura was baptised. She is 10 months old, and did not approve!
The scratch sundial on the corner of the church, and the tombs - this one is dated 1783 - add to the items of interest we found.
