When the children had finished painting the bridge panels some old graffiti remained on the brick support pillars of three bridges. We approached Cllr Bob Belam (LBWF Cabinet Member for Environmental Services) who made a councillor's enquiry leading to a visit by the LBWF Anti Graffiti Squad in mid January 2008. They used their specialist equipment and expertise to clear up the last of the mess. The following pictures show how they made a real difference to the final overall result of this long running project.

Here is the brick pillar on the Stoneydown Ave (north) bridge in it's terrible initial state on 28th September 2006.

Here the children have applied the background colour to the panel but the huge graffiti tag on the brick pillar seriously detracts from the overall effect. The picture was taken on 8th July 2007.

The council's anti graffiti squad came along and cleaned off the remaining old graffiti from the brick pillars. This visit has seen the finishing touches applied to our urban improvement project.

One of the Ritchings Ave (west) bridge pillars was also in a similarly neglected state. This picture was taken on 8th January 2007.

Great art work from the year 1 children but the brick pillar is in need of a visit from the council's anti graffiti squad to get rid of this old tag. This picture was taken on 8th July 2007.

Following a visit from the council cleaners the bridge brickwork is back to it's original state. This picture was taken on 30th January 2008. It shows just what can be achieved with community action and co-operation from many agencies.
