Chapter 6 Journal: Called to Community, The Acts of the Apostles
SLUH Summer Theology Mega Site
1. What is the one key idea of this chapter?
The main idea of this chapter is called to community. The Acts of the Apostles contains many interactions with the community. The Apostles would strive to great lengths to make sure the Christian communities would prosper, to do this it took much time and suffering. The church of Jerusalem was united in ideas, but also divided in these ideas. THis built some cracks in the community. The council of Jerusalem was held to discuss the fate of the newly converted Gentiles. Their community was unstable, but the council wanted to change this.
2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
The first idea I would like to remember is Mary as a discipleship model. Mary is our ever loving mother, and she is the mother God. She stood by Jesus' side at the cross, and wept. She suffered immensely, but she held her faith. Mary never lost her faith, or questioned God. I believe we should all try to model our spiritual and physical lives. She inspirational as she watched her son be beaten. We should all try to be like her.
The second idea I want to remember is the story of Franz Jaegerstaetter. Franz is an inspiration for us to remain faithful like Mary is. Franz was asked was asked to join the Nazi army in Germany, but Franz refused and he was put in jail. Franz said no because he didn't believe in the persecution of the Jews. This show Franz's strong will and faith. After he was in prison for sometime he was executed. Today Franz is considered a martyr. He is a model of discipleship like Mary.
