Chapter 5 Journal: Called to Take Risks, The Gospel According to Luke
SLUH Summer Theology Mega Site

1. What is the one key idea of this chapter?
The main idea of this chapter is called into relationship. This means that we are called into a relationship with God through Jesus and the Bible. Jesus was the fulfillment of the covenant between God and Abraham. Abraham trusted God so much that he was about to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac to God. This showed their strong and meaningful relationship, thus forming the covenant. We are called into a relationship by Jesus. He wants us to not only know our father, but live like we were serving him. On top of that, he wants us maintain our relationship by helping the least of his people. Through the Pentecost and other acts of the Apostles we find a very close and personal relationship with Jesus. This is what we are called to be like with God, and should build our relationship with him.

2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
The first idea I want to remember is getting courage from prayer. I have uses prayer to give me courage. I believe prayer connects you with God, putting you in an extreme comfort zone. We can all pray for courage in a time of need. Before a baseball game, or before a concert. This is very important because God wants to help us and all we have to do is let him in. Praying for courage is a way to connect with God, but it is also a way to strengthen my faith.

The second idea I want to remember is the story of Cesar Chavez. I believe this story has a very good message. Chavez suffered, and we are called to the same. He was poor and hungry. He took a risk by starting a union for farmers. The big plantations would not like this because they needed workers. He is an inspiration because he did what's right even if it was way harder. He persevered, the farmers finally got their rights, and he now lives happily.

3. One image that captures the chapter for you.

4. One significant question you have from this chapter. It can be intellectual or personal.
The book says that Luke was a doctor, and that is why women had a more prominent role in the chapter. Why would this give women a more prominent role? Did he only treat women?
