Chapter 3 Journal: Called to Be Like Jesus, The Gospel According to Matthew
SLUH Summer Theology Mega Site

1. What is the one key idea of this chapter?
In this chapter we are called to like Jesus. We can do this by reading the Gospel of Matthew. We should try to be like Jesus in all that we do. In the chapter there is a look at the audience of Matthew. This audience was similar to Jesus'. Matthew and Luke shared ideas that showed us where Jesus came from. In Jesus' temptation we are shown how to handle our temptations. Then we should try to handle our temptations in a similar way to be like Jesus. Jesus had certain values that we should try to hold in our own lives.

2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
The first thing I would want to remember would the audience of Matthew. This idea is very interesting because it makes you think about what direction Matthew was going in when he was writing. Many subjects in the Gospel of Matthew were directed toward a certain view. This view would be of Matthew's audience. I think it makes reading it very interesting, and trying to interpret is very intriguing. When reading the Gospel it is very important to remember who the writer was writing to.

The second ideas are the ones expressed in the Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon on the Mount was when Jesus taught many people on a mountain. Within the Sermon Jesus preached the Beatitudes. These were like Jesus' Ten Commandments. This is one of the main reasons why I would like to remember it. The Beatitudes show us how to live. They are not rules, but they are regulations. I also want to remember because of all the important parables Jesus gives. These two things are very meaningful to us as Christians.

3. One image that captures the chapter for you.

4. One significant question you have from this chapter. It can be intellectual or personal.
Why is the Gospel of Matthew considered the best or most accurate? Is this because it has the most common facts with the other Gospels? Rephrased question: Why is the Gospel of Matthew regarded as the most referenced Gospel or the best Gospel for research?

5. Nominate one organization that is living the Gospel in today's world.
The organiztion I would like to nominate is:

Birthright counseling services aids women who need financial help as well as emotional help. Birthright helps women who are considering having an abortion. Birthright reaches out to those in need, just as Jesus did in the Gospel. They live the Gospel everyday in my eyes.
