Semester Exam Essay: Three Things I Learned From Junior Faith

1) One major thing I learned from Junior Faith that greatly affects the way I think is the five common thinking errors. Since learning about non sequiturs, false and vague premises, ad hominems, begging the question, and red herrings, I have becom a better and more reasonable thinker and helped my friends be more reasonable as well. By keeping these thinking errors in mind before speaking, I have experienced a metanoia in the way I think and explain, moving from ignorance toward knowledge. I have definately moved more toward Truth by employing these thinking errors.

Those who fall victim to the common thinking errors are in the world of disillusionment that Plato referred to as "the cave."

2) The idea of Nonoverlapping Magesteria (NOMA) has really opened my eyes to the relationship between religion and science. Prior to this course, science and religion always seemed to be in conflict to me, but NOMA states that they are not in conflict because religion and science have their own specific and distnct areas of authority: science has the authority all things made of matter and religion handles all things not made of matter. The distinctness of their areas of authority means that science cannot intefere in religious matters and vice versa. So what NOMA really means is that science and religion are not in conflict because they do have the authority to address the same issues. This explanation made a lot of sense to me and definately clarified my once-blurry view of the relationship between religion and science.

This comic shows the ridiculousnessof interfering with scientific theory. It also implies that science's attempts to interfere in religious theores are equally ridiculous.

3) The Anthropic Principle has also changed my way of thinking and moved me closer to Truth. After learning about the numerous all-too-possible catastrophes that could have very easily and by all means shoud have wiped out the human race, life becomes such a fantastic and beautiful gift and God's existence becomes obvious.

This bug will not sink because of water's high surface tension. If water did not have surface tension we would not exist. This is an example of the Anthropic Principle.
