Music Theory I - 2.5 Credit Course | |||||||||||||||||
Music Theory I is a one-semester course open to students with an interest in writing music. The course begins with an introduction to fundamentals including the notation of rhtyms and pitch, then proceeds to the study of melody, tonality, intervals, cord types, herminization, simple counterpoint, composing original compositions using the computer and rules for four-part writing. A final project is requireing all learned writing techniques. | |||||||||||||||||

Music Theory II - 2.5 Credit Course | |||||||||||||||||
Students will study advanced harmony and modern compositional techniques. Students will utilize computer music software to produce original music. Two major compositions will be written and performed and a final project is required. | |||||||||||||||||

Music Theory AP - 5 Credit Course | |||||||||||||||||
AP Music Theory is designed for students who have general working knowledge of music theory. Students will examine, in an advanced level, various harmonic and rhythmic techniques. AP Music Theory goes beyond the paper and pencil analysis by working with sight singing and entertaining excercises to asist students in preparing for the AP Music Theory testing that takes place in the spring. Course will include Major and Minor Modes, Chromatically Altered Chords, Secondary Dominants and Modulation, and 20th Century Harmonic Practices. Ongoing activities will include Sight Singing, Ear Training, Dictation-Harmonic, Melodic, and Rhythmic. | |||||||||||||||||
