Plyouth lost the momentum it had gained in 1970 as only 702,113 cars were built, compared to the year before, 747,508. This caused them to slip from 3rd to 6th place in the industry standings. The cuda's reieved a face lift, the mid sized plymouths were totally new, and the duster recived very little styling changes. It recieved new side strips and a new optional rear strip that ran the width of the lower deck pannel insted of just between the tail lights. optional equipment included bucket seats with a console.
The 340 recieved a new Grille with a strong verticle theme. the parking lights and turn signals were recessed behind the vertical bars of the grille.the side stripe was new and ran the length of the body with a graceful curved highlight at the rear wheel opening. the 340 script was moved from the fron fender to the rear fenders just under the stripe. an optional flat black 340 hood with lockable pins, was avalible. it also featured a large "340" on the hood with the word "wedge" inside theverticle part of the "4".
Mid-year production brought the Duster Twister the twister offers a combination of sporty looks and economy all put together in one specially priced package. the grille was from the 340, and the stripe was similar to the 340's.a flat black hood with strobe stripes up the center was standard and twin hood scoos were optional. rallye wheels were standard (less the trim rings, which were optional) as were wite walls and racing mirrors. the twisters plaid cloth and vinyl interiors were avalible in four different color patterns. also offerd on the mid year dusters was the sun roof. the suggusted retail price was $229.50 for the sun roof option. the engine and tranney options went unchanged for 1971.
18 exterior colors were avalible in 1971 with roofs being avalible in black, white, green and gold. interiors of cloth and vinyl or all vinyl in bench or bucket seats were offerd in blue, black, tan, green, gold, orange and black, or white and black. Production amounted to 173,592 dusters, plus 12,886 duster 340's suggusted retail prices (as of october 6, 1970) were $2,313 for the duster six, $ 2,437 for the V-8 and $2,703 for the 340.
