There are many holes in local service which do not show up on the national maps. Click on one of the maps below to go to a larger map or the companies name to go to their web site where you can usually enter your zip code or city to get a more detailed map.You still may be able to get service even if your provider doesn't cover the area you are in. Most phones are dual mode (i.e. provide analog as well as digital service) so than can use use another service providers network (Service Provider roaming) and most of the major providers have interconnection agreements. You may have to enter special codes to make calls outside your home service provider area. Many phones are now tri-mode which allows them to operate as analog or digital in the 800 MHz (cellular) band and as digital in the 1900 MHz (PCS) band. However because of different digital signaling (TDMA, CDMA and GSM) they are not compatible with all systems. |
