Due South
A very unique series, and one of my personal favorites, Due South has had one of the worst possible luck regarding everything. What seemed to be another "bad cop/good cop" show, with the particular 'gimmick' that one of said cops was Canadian (And quite the stereotype at that) and could put Superman to shame, it quickly got a good deal of popularity among fans. Even so, it was cancelled in season II due to money problems, only to be resurrected for one last season, with some notable differences in the cast, which in turn made the fandom divide in two pretty rabid bands. In Mexico it has only been aired in one very exclusive cable channel completely, and the Pilot has aired as a movie in open T.V.  a couple of times.

The signatures are of Mario Castaņeda and Luis Alfonso Mendoza, for all Due South fans. Due South got a great cast, almost by accident. The Pilot was given to director Luis Alfonso Mendoza as a movie, not as a series, and just by watching it, he started to decide who would be whom. And he gave himself the role of Ray Vecchio, thinking it was a short one.
A couple of months later, they gave him the full series, and well, the rest is story.
For the third season, however, the owners (AXN Channel) changed the company were they were going to dub Due South. And so, they changed directors, and added a couple of great talents to the already great cast.
Benton Fraser: Mario Castañeda
Ray Vecchio: Luis Alfonso Mendoza
Ray Kowalski: Pepe Toño Macias
Lt. Welsh (SI and II): Humberto Velez
Elaine Besbriss (half SI and II): Rosi Aguirre
Francesca Vecchio: Maria Fernanda Morales
Luis Alfonso Mendoza is very well known for his sense of humor, and in many ocations added stuff to Ray's lines, including mexican popular songs, name of actors, and in one episode, the credit for the dubbing actors.

  • Fraser "Sorry, I'm looking for Detective... Armani?" (The Pilot)
  • Ray Vecchio "I'm sitting in a closet with a  Mountie while a deaf wolf licks me... (reaction) Mommie...That was the wolf, right? (reaction)" (Chinatown)
  • Ray and Fraser. (The Pilot)

  • Ray: "Have you thought of getting a phone. We use them in my country. Didn't you saw the ads?"
    Fraser: "Ray?"
Ray: "Shoot, what are you waiting for. It'll be easier than getting me out off this suit."

A couple of really curious facts:
    • Luis Alfonso Mendoza and Mario Castañeda are quite known in Mexico for other roles. Mario has almost always done the good, handsome guy, like McGuyver, while Luis Alfonso is famous for his great sense of humor, shown in his most known role as Count Duckula. Their latest work togheter was Dragon Ball Z, where Mario did Goku's voice, while Luis Alfonso gave life to Gohan, Goku's kid.
    • Mario Castañeda has also dubbed Bruce Willis in almost all his roles, since Moonlighting. He has also done a lot of Jim Carrey's roles.
    • Humberto Velez is one of the most popular voices in Mexico right now, thanks to Homer Simpson, but he didn't do Welsh in Season III
    • Maria Fernanda Morales and Rosi Aguirre started doing each other roles. In the pilot, Maria Fernanda did Elaine, while Rosi voices Francesca. Both worked togheter in Sailor Moon as Sailor Venus and Sailor Mercury.
    • Even when the whole cast returned for the Season III premiere, Luis Alfonso didn't do Ray Vecchio for the last episode "Call of the Wild."
